LAISSEZ-FAIRE LEADERSHIP
- Leaders give the least amount of guidance or instructions to the subordinates as to what to do
- Leaders have control over the subordinates through ways that are not obvious
- It is believed that subordinates are more successful at getting the work done when they are given the responsibility to get the work done in their own way
- Leader trusts the subordinates to take care of the tasks that are assigned to them
- Leader openly accepts any ideas or suggestions that the subordinates have for the betterment of the organization
- Subordinates should be skilled, and experienced in order to handle the work load on their own with minimal guidance
Advantages of Laissez Faire:
- Effective if employees are responsible
- High job satisfaction and morale
- Less conflict between the leader and the workers
- Works well if the workers are self-disciplined
Disadvantages of Laissez Faire:
- Workers might take advantage of the environment
- Workers might get by only doing the least amount of work
- Negligence from the workers might be ignored for a longer period of time
- Staff can loose their sense of direction
- Lack of accountability
